We are currently hiring an entry level Material Engineering Technician to join our Millersburg, Oregon facility. You will report to the Technology Manager and will work closely with the Technology group and Product Engineers. The Material Engineering Technician position is instrumental in the administration of batches and material allocation on standard products associated with primary metals mill products such as sheet, plate, tube, pipe, rod, wire, etc. in various alloy systems. The person in this job releases adequate material to fulfill production orders using a defined process. Working with the Product Engineers you will write and release standard batches per rule set and without shortages or excessive over-production. You will work cross-functionally with other departments such as Planning, and Operations. Additional tasks include working with Product Engineers on standardized operational step and published mill instructions.

As a Material Engineering Technician you are key in driving flow and will work to continuously improve the process to produce standard batches to reduce the administrative cycle times. In order to be successful and provide immediate impact you will have to quickly learn ATI's systems, processes, and departments, have strong problem-solving skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Release standard batches per rule set and without shortages or excessive over-production.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate with all relevant groups (i.e. Operations, Planning, and PE's).
  • Actively participate with and/or lead cross functional teams for problem solving and improvement objectives.
  • Interface with, and provide technical assistance to, Product Engineers within assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining mill instructions for operations step instructions.
  • Other assignments will be assigned as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in an engineering program working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or currently a degreed engineer.

Preferences, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical, Materials, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Candidates with technical background in heavy industrial engineering, familiarity with fundamental metalworking processes or experience in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong aptitude for applying Engineering principles in solving manufacturing issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of MS Excel, including spreadsheet calculations.
  • Very diligent & task oriented work ethic is absolutely necessary.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to plan, organize and control multiple activities and the ability to multi-task and manage time requirements is expected.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to interact well with employees, and cross functional teams are essential.
