Under general supervision, the Psychiatric Off Shift Nurse Leader (OSNL) is responsible for directing, controlling, and coordinating, through subordinate professional personnel, the administrative/clinical functions of Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital serving as an extension of senior management. . The successful accomplishment of the tasks associated with this position requires the Psychiatric OSNL to collaborate with others throughout the day and night and serve as the direct link between hospital strategies and the staff on the off-shifts, ensuring leadership continuity.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Clinical
    • 1.1 Expertise in understanding and operationalizing the core processes of nursing practice

    • 2.1 Identifies area in need of improvement, education and involvement
  • 3. Organizational Leadership
    • 3.1 Provides vision and leadership to the off-shifts of Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital that builds on a collaborative environment
  • 4. Customer Satisfaction
    • 4.1 Ensures the smooth functioning of the bed management process on the off/shift in order to reduce wait times and avoid unnecessary movement of patients

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Masters degree required. licensure required.

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) to six (6) years experience including clinical practice experience and two (2) to three (3) years of demonstrated leadership ability.

LICENSURE

Current Connecticut state RN Nursing license and /or eligibility for Connecticut state RN.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability in core process of nursing practice and care delivery. Demonstrated clinical expertise, critical thinking and process improvement skills. Excellent prioritization and communication skills. Knowledgeable of hospital performance improvement methodologies . Demonstrated ability to implement, support and effectively monitor change required. Must be able to translate research data into practice implications.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Exposure to bio-hazard blood and body fluids. Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting required.


Additional Information

Ability to direct a diverse work force in a 24 hour per day operational environment. Passion for leading others in a challenging and changing environment by utilizing innovation, technology, and best practices. Experience in leadership within the psychiatric setting strongly preferred. Must be flexible for high volume setting. Must be willing to commit to ensuring a culture that is open and inclusive to all patients and staff.

Hours: 3pm-11:30 pm with rotating weekends and holidays.
