Description & Responsibilities:

Wilton Manufacturing Engineering has Production Engineering - Assembly, Integration & Test opportunity available for electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineers with experience in manufacturing large mechatronic systems.

The main responsibility of the Production Engineer is to develop the assembly, integration, & test process for new products, industrialize the process on existing products, and support execution within production. Key tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Develop & introduce all aspects of the manufacturing process
    • Design process sequence
    • Create and maintain Work Instructions, including managing operator feedback and training
    • Define, procure, integrate, and validate tools used in the assembly process
  • Assess new designs for manufacturability and work with design team to optimize new designs for manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, defective parts, failing test parameters, etc.
  • Drive industrialization of new & existing processes to improve quality, cycle time, labor cost, and other key industrial parameters

Typical day:

Manufacturing Engineer will split time approx. 30% on the floor (cleanroom), 30% in meetings, 40% performing independent work at desk. When on the floor activities include working with technicians to troubleshoot process issues, failing test results, defect materials, etc. Meetings include design feedback meetings, process improvement roadmap meetings, and other ad-hoc tasks. Independent work at desk includes developing work instructions & creating other master data for production, analyzing new designs for manufacturability, identifying and preparing process improvements, and other ad-hoc tasks.

Technical Skills (required):

  • Experience with 3D CAD (NX Unigraphics) and 2D Drawings (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T))
  • Experience with mechanical systems & assemblies
    • Can operate measurement equipment (Vernier Calipers, micrometers)
    • Can explain simple force diagrams
  • Experience with root cause analysis, troubleshooting (Fishbone, 5-Why Analysis, DMAIC, FMEA, Eight Discipline/8D, Fault Tree Analysis)
  • Experience with manufacturing engineering improvement principles (Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, motion study)

Technical Skills (preferred):

  • (Strong Preference) Experience with production automation (Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Robotics, Computer automation)
  • (Strong Preference) Hands on experience with mechanical systems, prior manufacturing environment experience, several machine-shop courses, Formula SAE experience, etc.
  • Experience with technical writing
  • Experience with industrial engineering concepts (Cycle Time, Cost of goods/cost of materials, Just in Time Logistics)
  • Experience with systems engineering concepts (requirements management, requirements validation, Systems Engineering "V" Model)
  • Experience with Module Specific Technologies:
    • Vacuum Systems
    • Particulate & Molecular Contamination management (Cleanroom protocols, medical device industry)
    • Mechatronics & control systems
    • Water Cooling systems
  • Experience with Software Applications relevant to role:
    • Matlab, Python, Powershell
    • ERP Software (SAP)
    • Statistical Analysis Software (Minitab)
  • Proficiency in reading electrical functional diagrams

Personal Skills:

  • Task oriented and self-directed, able to stick to timelines and deliver results
  • Communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a cleanroom/factory environment, needs to be willing to/looking forward to performing hands on work
